Derawan is the perfect tropical paradise. Warm sunlight combined with a distant view of the white sand beach of fine, swaying coconut trees and crystal clear sea that changes color from green to cobalt blue. Underwater life here is exceptional, you will find giant turtles, dolphins, manta rays, dugongs, barracudas, and stingless jellyfish. Shark Derawan here is one of the precious biodiversity. With underwater riches it is not surprising that the Derawan later known as one of the best diving destinations in the world.
Located not far from the mainland Berau Regency, East Kalimantan Derawan Archipelago consists of 31 islands and the most famous of which is the island Derawan, Maratua, Charitable, and Kakaban. Here nesting endangered green turtles and hawksbill turtles. You can watch turtles lay eggs every day in the sand or swim into the sea together with turtles. The whole area of marine conservation is the extent of not less than 1.27 million hectares.
You can find at least 460 species of coral and is the second largest after the Raja Ampat in West Papua. At least Derawan found more than 870 species of fish ranging from pygmy seahorses to giant manta rays. Within a few days, a group of manta rays in large quantities up to 50 animals can you see were eating together at the waters of Derawan.
In Kakaban, you can find jellyfish lake the largest and most diverse in the world, including four unique species of stingless jellyfish that can swim upside down. This is the reason why Kakaban considered to be nominated for UNESCO World Heritage Site.
